Location Description
Namebini is located between Duluth and Two Harbors Minnesota six miles from Lake Superior.
Surrounded primarily by publicly owned forest lands, the 350 acre site contains a mile of the Sucker
River, a Lake Superior trout and steelhead stream,. Trout Unlimited’s habitat improvement sites are
located on trout streams tributary to Lake Superior in the Duluth/Two Harbors area.
Internship will require working in forested locations in all types of weather. Internship will also require
hiking long distances (5 miles per day) and carrying equipment weighing up to 40 lbs over rough terrain.
Mosquitoes are a common pest from mid-June through August. Biting flies are also common in the forest
in July and August. Ticks may be encountered throughout the season.
Trout Unlimited Duties
You will work with the spring tree planning project approximately three days/week in May and June.
Schedules may change. This will take place nearby on recent MNTU habitat sites on the Sucker River
and the nearby Stewart River. Coordination of volunteer efforts and logistics management of trees, tools,
materials and equipment at the different sites will be needed. The purpose of this project is to restore and
improve riparian forest diversity, address potential climate change scenarios, and increase shade cover for
streams.
Namebini Duties
You will work on riparian tree planting maintenance, tree planting, trail maintenance and other field work
for approximately two days/week in May and June. Schedules may change.
In July and August focus will be on tree release and stand management for conservation principles (45%)
in addition to trail creation and maintenance (20%). Working with ongoing University of Minnesota,
UMD, and other research projects is also planned (15%) as well as arboretum planting and maintenance
(10%).
General site grounds keeping will also be required throughout the internship including mowing and
pruning (10%).
Training Provided
Tree planting methodology and tree care relative to specific species used. Plant and tree ID for on-site
use. Training in use of tractors, skid steers, chainsaws and other power and hand tools provided as
needed.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Opportunity to hike the Superior Hiking Trail, one of the top recreational trails in the US, which borders
Namebini. Six miles of on-site hiking trails. On-site trout fishing for native brook trout. Namebini is
located 16 miles from downtown Duluth’s popular lakewalk and Canal Park recreation area, hosting
numerous summer concerts and events. Multiple waterfall themed state parks are located nearby, and
easy access to Minnesota’s Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness is less than two hours away.

Some coursework or experience in Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife or a similar field. First aid/CPR
preferred.
Additional Details
Interns will obtain off site housing independently. No additional compensation is provided for off-site
housing. Some extremely rustic on-site housing may be available. Inquire if interested. It is
approximately 12 miles from Namebini to a community with services. No transportation is provided to
and from site for work. Personal vehicle required for shopping and recreation off-site. Normal work
hours: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. One week of vacation is provided after July 7th. Schedule is
flexible.

Stipend Provided?
A stipend of approximately $4250 is provided and may be pro-rated based on length of participation and
time spent on differing projects.
