The USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry will soon be
advertising for a permanent, full-time position of Field Representative, St. Paul Field
Office, GS-0401-14.

Duties
This position is located in one of three Field Offices of the Northeastern Area State and
Private Forestry (NA) which serves twenty states and the District of Columbia. The
incumbent serves as the Field Representative for the St. Paul Field Office providing
technical and financial assistance for State & Private Forestry (S&PF) programs to
seven state forestry agencies and their partners (Midwest). The Field Representative
serves as a line officer, reporting to the NA Director and shares responsibility with the
Director for providing federal assistance to State Foresters and their staff(s) within each
field office area, in accordance with the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978.
The position provides administrative and technical oversight to all State & Private
Forestry programs including supervision of employees within the Field Office service
area. The incumbent is responsible for leadership; contributing to formulation of NA
policy, standards, procedures, and direction; coordinating and integrating programs and
activities; technical expertise and signatory authority for grants/agreements; and
supervising staff. State and Private Forestry programs, as authorized by the
Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978, as amended, include Biomass Utilization,
Community Forest and Open Space Conservation, Economic Action, Forest Health
Protection, Forest Legacy, Forest Stewardship, and Urban and Community Forestry.

concentration three times that of the nation.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area is home to a little over 3 million people. The
median age of residents is 32 years. The racial/ethnic composition for those reporting to
the Census (and identifying themselves in one category) is 81.6% Non-Hispanic Whites,
6.4% Black or African American, 0.6% American Indian and Alaska Native, 4.9% Asian,
and 4.6% Hispanic and Latino.)
