Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to act under the direction of the Forest Administrator and in conjunction with WDNR
to perform timber sale establishment, forestry inventory, reconnaissance updates and related work as required. This
is a summer seasonal position limited to a maximum of 600 hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Other duties may be assigned or required.
1) Establish timber sale boundaries under the direction of a project manager.
2) Mark hardwood, oak, and pine stands for harvest.
3) Assist with timber sale cruising.
4) Collect forest reconnaissance data for northern hardwood and red oak stands under the direction of a
project manager.
5) Collect additional information on crop tree densities, ground vegetation, understory competition densities
and other variables.
6) Assist with updating G.I.S. data.
7) Assist with Washburn County Forest silviculture and other forestry operations as directed by the Forest
Administrator.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Graduate from high school followed by secondary education and/or experience in Forestry, Resource Management,
Geographic Information Systems, or a related field providing essential knowledge, skills, and abilities. A Bachelor
degree or current enrollment in a B.S. Forestry program is preferred.

Knowledge of and ability to identify tree species native to northern Wisconsin.
Ability to interpret maps and aerial photography.
Ability to navigate using a compass and/or GPS
Knowledge of silvicultural methods and practices used the management native forest types.
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, and Excel; and experience with GIS software.
Ability to work with the general public; work under adverse weather conditions; knowledge of basic record
keeping; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to carry out projects and
assignments with limited supervision; knowledge of general computer maintenance; skill in use and care of
computer equipment used; physical condition necessary to perform the duties of the position.

The tasks of this position involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may
involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (25 pounds). Tasks
may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision,
depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compass, paint gun, prism, angle gauge, tree measuring devices, GPS unit, air photos, computers, pickup truck,
ATV, trailer, and other equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to works in outside weather conditions. The
primary duties of this job will require indoor working conditions in an office environment.
