FLORENCE COUNTY FORESTER/ RECREATION
COORDINATOR
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
FULL TIME (40 HOURS PER WEEK)
SUPERVISION:
FLORENCE COUNTY FORESTRY AND PARKS
ADMINISTRATOR
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This is a professional position under the direct supervision of the Florence County Forestry and
Parks Administrator. This position will assist with forest management activities on 36,000+
acres of county forestland. This position will also direct recreational activities undertaken by
the Forestry and Parks Department.
DUTIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. These are not to be construed as
exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
A.
Recreation, Forest Roads, and Wildlife- 50% of time
1. Operate equipment necessary to construct and maintain County Forest and
Parks roads, trails, and facilities. Coordinate with Highway Department on
maintenance and development projects.
2. Construct and maintain hunter/walking trails including: gating, berming,
signing, mowing and clearing.
3. Coordinate county wide snowmobile and ATV programs. Typical duties may
include: brushing, signing, inspecting trails, developing new routes, and
attending club meetings. Grant writing for ATV, Snowmobile, boating,
County Conservation aides…
4. Coordinate Wildlife Project work.
5. Investigate and report problems within the county forest to the Forestry and
Parks Administrator and/or sheriff’s department (e.g. theft, insects and
diseases, illegal deer stands, dumping, off-road vehicle/ATV damage, damage
to county facilities and property, etc).
B.
Forestry- 35% of time
1. Assist the Assistant Administrator with timber sale activities such as: cruising,
marking, establishing property lines and timber sale boundaries, mapping
preparing timber sale documents, WisFIRS, etc.
2. Conduct timber sale administration as needed. Typical duties may include:
scaling, checking contract compliance, communicating with loggers, truckers,
and private land owners, alerting the Forest Administrator to potential and
existing problems.

3. Perform inspections on Contract requirements and Closing Timber Sale
Contracts including BMP’s, Roads, Trails, Landings, Seedings, Recon
Updates, Scale summaries and final billings, etc.
4. Conduct other forestry projects such as: planning, layout and design of site
preparation, tree planting, regeneration and survival studies, timber stand
improvement, release, etc.
C.
Other- 15% of time
1. Assist with building, inspecting, and maintaining county parks, campgrounds,
boat landings, Florence Natural Resource Center, and Keyes Peak Ski Hill.
2. Maintain a professional attitude and attend training sessions and meetings as
approved by the Forest Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor Degree in Forestry (or closely related field) from a college or university accredited
by the Society of American Forester required. Preference will be given to applicants who meet
the educational requirement and have additional field experience.
Applicants should have:
1. Computer knowledge; GPS, GIS, proficient in Microsoft Office.
2. The ability, stamina and willingness to travel over long distances, over rough
terrain, on foot, in all types of weather.
3. Ability to exercise independent judgment and work without direct supervision.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to various
groups and individuals of a wide range of backgrounds.
5. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and accurate reports.
6. Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
7. Ability to work cooperatively with others including: department employees,
DNR employees, loggers, truckers, county employees, county officials,
private landowners, clubs, organizations and the general public.
8. Ability and willingness to do occasional strenuous physical labor.
9. Live in the State of Wisconsin or will move to the State within one year of
employment.
WORK SCHEDULE
Compensation is based on a 40 hour workweek, generally Monday through Friday. Various
situations may require work times to vary and could occasionally include evenings or weekends.

SALARY
The hourly rate will be from $18.00/hour to $20.01/hour based on experience. Fair Labor
Standard Act (FLSA) status is non-exempt. Thereafter, increases will be consistent with other
represented county employees.

A County vehicle will be available during working hours.
