UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION INITIATIVE (UEI) GRANTS:
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 26 February, 2016.
Purpose of the Grant
The purpose of these grants is to provide research experience to students within the UWSP College
of Letters & Science that goes beyond classroom and instructional-lab experience. Please keep in
mind that you must design your proposed project to provide additional support and research
opportunities to students of the College.
Submission Instructions
Application consists of the following page as a cover, with the grant narrative and budget attached.
Submit completed applications to your department chair, who will sign and rank the proposals within
your department and pass them along to the Dean’s Office for review.
Please note that the Dean’s Office will not ask you for information or clarification related to your
proposal after it has been submitted. Accordingly, if you have questions about your grant, please
direct them to the Dean’s Office before submittal.
Administration of the Grant
You or your department must work with the Associate Dean and the Dean’s Assistant on all aspects
of fund distribution, including reimbursement (receipts must be saved and presented for
reimbursement). Departments may use their routine procedures, developed over previous years, to
arrange for disbursement.
Reporting Requirements
Grantees must file a report with the Dean’s Office within one year of receipt of the funds. The Dean’s
Assistant will be in touch about these reports and they will become part of the faculty member’s file.
Students with research funded by a UEI Grant are expected to present the results of their work at the
College Undergraduate Research Symposium.

TITLE:
1. Please outline your history of internal and external grants (either successful or unsuccessful) over the
previous three-year period and note any awards.
2. In a separate document (not to exceed two pages), please include each of the following:
a) A narrative description of the project, specifically addressing i) your goals, ii) your procedure for
implementation, and iii) the potential value to your students, your department, and the college.
NOTE: Students traveling abroad to conduct research must coordinate with the Office of
International Programs.
NOTE: Please inform the COLS Grant Awards Committee in your narrative if any of the students
involved in the project are work study eligible.
b) An itemized budget.
NOTE: Students engaged in summer research projects will be paid at a rate of $10/hr.
Exceptions will only be considered in cases with extenuating circumstances, and must
approved by the Chair and Dean.
NOTE: Because funds for new computer purchases (including laptops, PDAs, and related
software, etc.) are available from other sources, requests for new computers and related
software will not be funded.
c) A list of other sources of funding, either received or applied for.
NOTE: Faculty must require eligible students to apply for student research funds through the
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to cover travel or supply/service expenses.

UEI awards will be based upon URSCA fund award and availability.
As soon as notification of an URSCA award is received, send an email with the students name,
faculty name, department and account number to the Associate Dean in COLS.
