PositionDescription:Thepositionis20-hour/weekreportingtothePsychologyAdvisor(Kathy
Elgin)andworkingwiththedepartmentfacultymemberresponsibleforteachingPSY200:
OrientationtotheMajor(Dr.EllenRozek).Thepersoninthispositionwillbeworkingwith
primarilyfirstyearstudentsandstudentsnewtothepsychologymajor.ACPA/NASPA
competenciesofAdvisingandSupportingandandPersonalandEthicalFoundationsare
emphasized.
JobResponsibilities:
● Provideone-on-oneadvisingtocurrentandprospectivepsychologymajors
● Helpadviseesunderstandandappreciatetheadvisor/adviseeresponsibilitiesessential
toaneffectiveadvisingrelationship
● Helpadviseesunderstandtherequirementsofthepsychologymajor
● Assistadviseesinknowingadviseesstrengthsandinterestareas.
● BecomefamiliarwithUW-Lcampusresourcesandreferstudentstoappropriate
resourceswhenneeded
● BecomefamiliarwithandassiststudentsinunderstandingandapplyingUW-Lacademic
policies
● Helpstudentsunderstandandappreciatetheconceptofaliberalartseducation
● Assiststudentsinselectingcourses,takingintoaccountinterests,GeneralEducation
requirements,CollegeofLiberalStudiesrequirements,andmajorrequirements
