Trilithic Announces Technology Integration with AM Communications
Indianapolis, Indiana (Wednesday, November 28, 2001) – Trilithic Inc. and AM
Communications Inc. announce today a technology partnership to integrate the data
communications capabilities of Trilithic’s 860 DSP test instrument with AM’s Omni2000 Cable
Network Management software.
Trilithic’s 860 DSP uses digital technology to perform a variety of measurement and
communications functions in one light-weight instrument. Operating in Terminal Mode, the 860
DSP becomes a “virtual field assistant;” an all-purpose field data terminal, which communicates
through a built- in high-speed RF modem with management systems and data sources of Trilithic
and other suppliers.
The Trilithic/AM Communications technology integration allows technicians equipped with the
860 DSP to view the status and performance of any Omni2000- monitored network element,
from wherever they’re working in the network. AM has written special Omni2000 software
extensions that enable interactive communications from any management workstation to the
860DSP, including paging alerts and text chat.
Commenting on the announcement, Joe Rocci, Group Vice President of AM’s Broadband
Products Group, said, “We’re really pleased to be working with Trilithic on this advanced
technology program. We’ve long believed that test and measurement and network management
are two facets of the same coin, and that these functions should be integrated into a uniform
management fabric. The work that we’re doing with Trilithic on this project is enabled by the
advanced technology embodied in new generation instruments such as the 860DSP. Trilithic was
one of the first companies to roll out instruments with this capability, and from what we’ve seen,
their product is also one of the most cost-effective for the applications that we’re designing.
We’ll be demonstrating this integration at the 2001 Western Cable TV show in Anaheim and
soliciting suggestions from operators for how we can leverage the concept to make their
workforces more efficient. After that, both AM and Trilithic intend to open our interfaces to
other companies so that this kind of integration can become ubiquitous.”

Adds Jim Harris, Director of Marketing for Trilithic Inc: “We are very pleased with the way the
joint program with AM Communications is going. The project shows that test equipment
companies and management system suppliers can make field operations more efficient and field
personnel more effective by sharing technical information and by partnering on significant
projects. In HFC systems, management and diagnostic information should flow seamlessly
between the field and the office. Our Partnership with AM has shown that open equipment
protocols and industry partnerships are the future of technology. It has also demonstrated that
modern field instrumentation can be the channel for transporting vital diagnostic data to field
technicians. This opens a new era for fault diagnosis through integrated data communications.”
Trilithic, Inc. supplies more than 1500 different measurement products and communications
