After E.R. Wagner
paid $11,000 “for the
purchase of the Baby
Carriage Hardware
Department” of The
American Bicycle
Co. on Dec. 28,
1899, the new E.R.
Wagner Mfg. Co.
begins business in
January of 1900.

In 1912, the Wagner
Folding Go-Cart was
advertised as the
“most comfortable
and complete of GoCarts”. Pictured here
is the top of the line
model which sold for
$11.50, though you
could buy a Go-Cart
for as little as $4.00.

In 1918, E.R. Wagner
advertising was quite
different than today.
“We furnish free of
charge” was promised
and a good assortment
of newspaper
electrotypes for local
newspaper advertising.

In 1924 the company
purchased the assets of
Milwaukee Shock
Absorber Co. and
started making friction
type shock absorbers
for Model T Fords.
They were tested by
driving back and forth
over the railroad ties
west of the plant.

DRIVEN TO EXCEED EXPECTATIONS
In 1931, E.R. Wagner
purchased the National
Clinch Hinge Co. and
made history. The
company began
manufacturing hinges in
all sizes for everything
from jewelry boxes to
airplanes. The line
includes continuous
hinges, and today E.R.
Wagner is the largest
automotive hinge
manufacturer in the U.S.

In 1933, E.R. Wagner
started manufacturing
and selling the hand
operated carpet
sweepers.

DRIVEN TO EXCEED EXPECTATIONS
In 1943 the company
devoted itself to
subcontracting work,
manufacturing wheels
for conveyors used to
unload airplanes,
hardware for army cots
and a variety of hinges
for everything from
munition boxes to tanks.
The wheel pictured here
would later be used on
roller skates and
skateboards as well as
conveyors.

In 1957, this display pushed
the profit benefits of selling
Wagner carpet sweepers. By
this time the company had
been manufacturing this
product for approximately a
quarter century.

In 1959, E.R. Wagner
promotes the New
Swirlaway cleaner with Easy
Glamur liquid. The manual
said, “So Easy To Store.
Just Apply, Let Dry!”. The
swirlaway not only cleans, it
Germ Proofs!

In 1960 the Casters
and Wheels Division
was founded in
Hustisford, WI. The
purchase of Gleason
Manufacturing Co.
was the starting point.

In the 1970’s
numerous new
products were
introduced such as:
portable clothes
dryers, food kits
(cheese, yogurt,
sausage)

In 1973, the Tubular
Products Division was
founded at the
Milwaukee location as
an effective alternative
to more expensive
machined parts or
fabricated tubing.

In 2003, Haydock &
Superba Casters located
in Niles, IL, a leader in
the Furniture Caster
Industry, was purchased.

leading manufacturer

was purchased.
