LIDL Picks Orders With Schaefer Case Picking System
Company becomes the first German discounter to utilize the innovative orderpicking system by SSI Schaefer
The grocery provider, LIDL, will expand its logistics center in Kirchheim/Teck using
an automated order-picking warehouse. SSI Schaefer received the contract for the
logistics components of the operation. SSI Schaefer plans to build a large high bay
warehouse with five aisles and approximately 15,000 pallet storage positions. It will
also be equipped with the conveyor technology needed for its operation. A five-level
tray-warehouse (STS), with approximately 16,000 storage positions, will be built next
to the high bay warehouse. This area will serve to buffer the items by layer after the
pallets pass through automatic de-palletizing in goods receiving.
The Schaefer Case Picking (SCP) provides efficient order-picking processes due to
its order-related picking of individual packages in parallel multi-access mode. In
terms of shipping, as well as in store replenishment, the system guarantees ideally
packed pallets. The SCP system processes 70,000 packages a day. However,
despite the high order picking performance, the system ensures gentle handling of all
items.
Preliminary work for the project are in place and total completion is projected within
two years.
