1. M/S/P Minutes of 3/4/13, voice vote, no abstentions.
2. First Reading of HED 200 – Public Health for the Educated Citizen: HED 200
arose as the result of program requirements from the Accredited Schools of
Public Health (ASPH). The general education benefit to a course like this is
promoted by AACU, as well as recommendations by the LEAP liberal education
American promise program.
After some discussion about the appropriateness of placing this course in the II.D
Self and Society category (as opposed to II.G Health and Physical Well Being),
M/S/P, the course was approved.
3. First Reading of PHY 142 – Going Nuclear: Navigating Global Nuclear Issues:
This course was designed to fill an identified general educational need within the
sciences; namely, a course that is accessible to students of all majors with
significant scientific content, but with more of a historical/social scientific
approach.
Again, after discussion about the appropriateness of placing this course in the
II.B.2 Global and Multicultural Studies category (as opposed to II.C.2
Science/Technology category), M/S/P, the course was approved.
4. General Education Assessment Committee status report: Kenny presented an
analysis of the Form B data submitted by those Gen Ed courses that assessed in
the 2011-2012 academic year. A discussion of the GEAC's findings, as well as a
discussion about possible modifications to the current assessment process,
ensued.
5. Gen Ed Assessment processes used by other UW System schools (continuing):
Owing to the length of the meeting, this item was moved to the 4/15/13 agenda.
M/S/P, The meeting was adjourned at 5:02 PM.
