Alternate Salary Equity Distribution Idea: Try to move UWL’s salary median for each discipline/rank group closer to the CUPA median. Accomplish this by moving the entire distribution for each discipline/rank group. Method 1. For each discipline/rank group compute the UWL median salary and subtract this from the CUPA median for that group. 2. Exclude those discipline/rank groups whose median is above the CUPA median. 3. Compute the dollars needed to raise each UWL group to the CUPA median (i.e. the difference between CUPA and group medians times the number of individuals in the group). 4. Sum the dollars needed over all groups and compute each groups share fraction of this total (i.e. group need divided by the total need). 5. Distribute an available pool among groups based upon the groups share fraction of the total need. 6. Divide a groups award evenly among the members of that group. Notes • This shifts a groups salary distribution closer to the CUPA median without changing the shape of the distribution. • Of approximately 90 discipline/rank groups 84 have a median below the CUPA median with 78 being more than 2% below the median. • The total need is about $2.7M. A $250K pool can address approximately 1/11 of that need. • Discipline/rank groups should not include new hires after 7.1.09 since these were made at 100% of CUPA. This will have the effect of lowering the UWL median of the group. • This table shows the distribution of groups by percent below their CUPA median. % below 0-5% 5-10% 10-15% 15-20% 20-25% 25-30% 30-35% 35-40% # of groups 18 21 16 21 2 5 0 1 • This table shows the distribution of groups by the group individual award amount. $ amount $0-400 $400-800 $800-1200 $1200-1600 $1600-2000 $2000-2400 $2400-2800 # of groups 21 22 21 15 1 2 2
