geographique. 48 individues ont ete signales pendant 1990. Les
espeees observees sont les sui vantes: Balaenoptera aeutorostrata,
Ziphius eavirostris, Physeter maeroeephalus, Phoeoena phoeoena,
Delphinus delphis, Stenella eoeruleoalba, Tursiops truneatus,
Globieephala sp.
Summary
Areport on the stranded marine mammals on the Galieian
eoast is given here based on a partial geographieal and temporal
eoverage. 48 individuals were reeorded throughout 1990. The
speeies involved were Balaenoptera aeutorostrata,
Ziphius
eavirostris, Physeter maeroeephalus, Phoeoena phoeoena, Delphinus
delphis, Stenella eoeruleoalba, Tursiops truneatus, Globieephala
sp.
Introduetion
The Galieian eoast wi th an extension of 1.720 Km. and
si tuated in the Northwest atlantie eoast of the Iberian Peninsula
is probably an important area for eetaeean strandings.
Al though
there is no organised stranding network, a
eonsiderable amount of eoast watehing is earried out by
individuals
and naturalist organizations
in Galieia.

strandings with 48 animals are reported here for the year 1990.
The irregular geographieal distribution of the strandings
shown in fig. 1 is due to a partial survey of the groups
reeording animal strandings along the different parts of the
eoast.
