Technical Commission VII
Foreword
The 1992 ISPRS Washington Congress established the responsibility of the Commission VII
for the period 1992-1996. The Commission VII was renamed and reorganized in
October 1992 in Stresa, Italy. Environment and earth resources were the main topics
selected for Commission VII, maybe in part influenced by the United Nations Environment
and Development Meeting organized in 1992. Thereafter, the Commission VII has been
working through ten Working Groups as follows:
WG1
Chair:
Physical Measurements and Signature in Remote Sensing
Gerard Goyot
WG2
Chair:
Resource and Environnmental Monitoring Using Radar Data
Hiroyuki Wakabayashi
WG3
Chair:
Renewable Resources
Frank Hegyi
WG4
Chair:
Non-Renewable Resources
James Taranik
WG5
Chair:
Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring
Paul Curran
WG6
Chair:
Land Degradation and Desertification
M.G. Chandrasekhar
WG7
Chair:
Hazardous Waste and Environmental Pollution
Vernon Singhroy
WG8
Chair:
Snow, Ice, Ocean and Coastal Zone Monitoring
Shintaro Goto
WG9
Chair:
Human Settlement
Bruce Forster
WG10
Chair:
Global Monitoring
Sergio Camacho Lara
Two years after the Rio Conference 1992, the ISPRS Commission VII organized the first
technical scientific meeting related with environtnent monitoring and resources. The meeting
named ECO-RIO 1992 attracted 655 scientists from 16 countries. The proceedings of the
meeting were printed in three volumes with a total of 1106 pages.
For the Vienna Congress the Commission VII received the submission of 237 papers. The
successful number of papers has been the result of the intensive work of the Working
Groups' chairmen.
