Plant & Soil Science at Alabama A&M University Assistantship Opportunities Graduate Student Research Assistantships The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Alabama A&M University, awards a limited number of research assistantships on an annual basis. For students pursuing a MS. degree, assistantships are awarded for a maximum period of three years; for students pursuing a Ph.D. degree, assistantships are awarded for a maximum period of four years. Stipends for students seeking a MS degree range from $5,000 - $10,000 annually. Stipends for students seeking Ph.D. degrees are $13,000 annually. However, since most Ph.D. assistantships are funded through faculty grants or contracts the amounts awarded may be higher. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements to be Eligible Candidates must be a fully admitted student to Alabama A&M University’s graduate school and to the Department of Plant and Soil Science at the time the award is made (However, applications will be accepted from students prior to admission to the University). Only graduate students whose major professor is a member of the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences are eligible for a departmental assistantship. Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (undergraduate record) or 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (graduate record). Letter of reference -For continuing students, this letter must be from your major professor. For incoming students, this letter can be from your undergraduate faculty advisor. Undergraduate and if applicable graduate transcripts (photocopies are ok). Copy of GRE scores (for Ph.D. applicants). GRE scores can be a photocopy of the score report that was sent to you.
