Individuals not vacating by this time, will be
charged $25/15 minutes or fraction thereof
plus a $50 improper checkout fee.
Remember that you must be out of your room within 24 hours of

Keep in mind that other students may still have tests and they

atmosphere.
HYER HALL AND SUITES@201 residents who will retain
their room from fall to spring do NOT need to vacate
the hall; however, you must complete applicable closing tasks
(see related article).
If you need on-campus housing over winter break,

Roach, Pray-Sims, Smith, Suites@201 and Thomson. Residents of
these halls (based on their spring housing assignment) stay in
their rooms. Residents of other halls will be accommodated as

“departure checklists” indicating tasks that you must complete
before leaving. Please remember to read these carefully and
complete the indicated items.
January 24
HALLS RE-OPEN
Residence halls re-open for spring semester at 10 a.m.
HALLS RE-OPEN SUNDAY, JANUARY 24, 10 A.M.
CLASSES BEGIN MONDAY, JANUARY 25.
FINAL EXAMS STUDY HOURS BEGIN SUNDAY,
DECEMBER 13 AT 11:59 P.M.
and continue throughout the final exam period. During final
exams study hours, no noise is to be heard from the stairwells,
hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, and, of course, student rooms.
(If a resident is doing anything in their room that creates noise,
the door needs to be completely closed and no noise is to be
heard in the hallway.)
”Relaxed hours” are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m., daily.
Relaxed hours are flexible hours that allow residents to leave
their doors open, vacuum, play music at a reasonable level, talk
in a normal tone, etc. Activities that are prohibited during
relaxed hours include, but are not limited to, stereos and
televisions in excessive volume and yelling.
The front doors of your hall will be unlocked on Sunday,
January 24 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Monday,
January 25, beginning at 8 a.m.
If you are returning to the same hall next spring, be certain to
take your building Saflok home with you and keep it in a secure
location. You will use that same Saflok again next spring
(replacements for lost Safloks cost $15).
IF YOU HAVE A NEW SPRING ASSIGNMENT, be sure to arrive when
the desk is open so that you can check in and get your room key
and hall Saflok (if you are moving to a new hall).

Check your electrical appliances. Residential Living strongly
recommends that you unplug all appliances. Be certain to
perform backups on your computer. Keep in mind that
electrical outages do occur during the winter and that power
surges may result when electrical power is restored.
Residential Living is NOT responsible for any losses
incurred due to power failure (or other electrical
incident) including, but not limited to: aquariums, food,
computers and answering machines.
Remove any food from the floor and/or basement
refrigerators/freezers. Anything left will be thrown out as
these refrigerators/freezers will be unplugged and cleaned.
Complete the departure checklist distributed by your CA (and
posted on your room door).
If your roommate is not returning second semester, do not
move your belongings to the other side of the room. If
you presently have a vacancy in your room, you must
prepare that space for the possible assignment of a new
resident during winter break. Appropriate closet, bed,
drawer, and study space must be cleared. Individuals not
complying will be fined a minimum $50 improper check-out
charge and may face referral to the Dean of Students Office.
LEAVE YOUR HEAT TURNED ON. This helps ensure that
pipes do not freeze!
CLOSE AND LOCK YOUR WINDOWS. This helps ensure that
pipes do not freeze!
LOCK YOUR DOOR. The university does not assume
responsibility for stolen items. Better still, take valuables
home with you.
Do not ask hall directors or custodians to feed your fish or water
plants. They are not able to enter rooms for these reasons! When
cleaning out aquariums do not dump gravel into sink drains.
Remove gravel and properly dispose of it in the trash.
Not following the above guidelines results in a minimum $50
improper check-out charge (plus applicable damages and cleaning
charges). Charges are assessed for additional work required by
university personnel to do any of the tasks considered to be your
responsibility. Personnel will be concentrating on public areas and
cannot assume such additional tasks. Residential Living staff will
be entering your room to verify completion of the tasks listed
above as well as those delineated on your departure checklist.
You will not “live” in your new room until next semester.
When you return in January, you will receive a key to your new
room and will need to complete appropriate check-in paperwork.
LOFT RENTAL RETURNS
Loft returns are scheduled for Saturday, December 12,
11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the loop drive behind DeBot Center.
It is your responsibility to return your loft. Not doing so subjects
you to a penalty from the loft company as well as charges from
our department for removal.
If you have questions about returning your loft, you can reach
College Products via the Web (www.collegeproducts.com/uwsp);
use their “contact us” option (loft returns). You can also call
