CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
A capstone-like experience in which the student would demonstrate a broad knowledge of Business
Analytics by undertaking hands-on projects with realistic data.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (SLOs):
Upon completion of projects, students will demonstrate a broad knowledge and clear understanding
of critical concepts, practices and issues in Business Analytics (BA) project development and
completion. Specific course outcomes are:
1) identify accurately specific problems that organizations can solve using BA techniques;
2) integrate the learning experiences acquired in the BA certificate program to effectively develop
and recommend BA-based solution(s) for business problems faced by organizations;
3) synthesize the learning experiences acquired in the BA certificate program to effectively develop
and recommend BA-based solution(s) for business problems faced by organizations;
4) apply important BA concepts, principles, techniques, and practices needed to effectively
leverage big data in support of organizational strategic goals.
TEACHING METHODS AND ASSIGNMENTS FOR ACHIEVING LEARNING
OUTCOMES:
This course blends research project, online discussion and online presentation.
Class discussion and participation (SLOs 1, 2, 3, 4)
Each student is required to regularly discuss online with the instructor on project progress.
Project Proposal Presentation (SLO 1, 2)
Each student must present their proposal to the class through an online presentation.
Time limit for presentation is 15 minutes.

Mid Semester report (SLO 1, 2, 3)
There will be a mid-semester report and a presentation. The mid-term report and presentation
address a review of literature or current work/solution approaches that exits, gaps addressed,
progress on the main solution that the student is working on, pending work to complete project,
and any limitations. While there is no set guideline for this report, this to ensure the student is
making progress towards finishing the project in time.
Final Report and presentation (SLOs 1, 2, 3, 4)
The final report and a presentation provide students an opportunity to demonstrate all of the
accomplishments in their projects. There should be enough textual content that details the project
work and the report cannot be predominantly graphics. The report should include a summary
page or abstract, table of contents, page numbers, appropriate sub headings,
conclusions/limitations, references and citations. While there is no page length specification,
typical final reports are about 25 to 30 pages excluding title page, references, and appendix.
Quality and relevance of content is important.
EVALUATION AND GRADING:
The following criteria will apply to the grading of project.
A: Work that demonstrates not only a clear understanding of the material under study, but also a
superior ability to utilize that material in the projects. All criteria are met. The student’s work
goes beyond the task and contains additional, unexpected or outstanding features.
B: Work that demonstrates a good understanding of the material under study, and utilizes the
material well in the projects. The student meets the project criteria, with few errors or omissions.
C: Work that fails to demonstrate project requirements and work may not address one or more
criteria or may not accomplish what was stated in the proposal.
F: Work that is incomplete, inappropriate and/or shows little or no comprehension of the project
requirements.
The course will be letter graded. A student’s final grade will depend on the quality of the project
components.

The grade scale is based upon percent of points earned, and is as follows:
93-100%=A
73-76%=C
90-92%=A- 87-89%=B+
Below 73%=F
83-86%=B
80-82%=B-
77-79%=C+

Since this project course is completely individualized, the specifics of the required material are
selected in consultation with the instructor.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are expected to meet (online) with the professor on a weekly
or bi-weekly basis and participate in required presentations. Attendance in weekly or bi-weekly
online meetings is mandatory.
FINAL EXAMINATION: There will be no final examination.
