OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UW-STEVENS POINT STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN UWSP STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS ALL Winterim 2016-2017 and Semester II, 2016-2017 Programs The number of scholarship awards and award amounts are subject to available funds each year. Awards range from $500 to $1000. Preference is given to students who have not previously studied abroad or received study abroad grants. Although financial need is a consideration in making the awards, the primary basis for selection is how the program fits into the academic and vocational goals of the student. Carefully crafted essays are important. The study abroad scholarship committee reviews all applications and attempts to award scholarships to students from all four UWSP colleges. In some cases, applicants may be called in for an interview. DEADLINE: scholarship application and materials must be submitted by 4:30 PM – Friday, October 14, 2016. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUIRED: NOTE: Student must be accepted into a study abroad program prior to being awarded a scholarship. 1) OIE Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form -- Attached. 2) Letter of Application – ONE PAGE ONLY. a. List how your experience abroad will benefit you academically and enhance your career goals. b. Discuss any previous travel, work or study abroad experience (location, dates, reason for travel) and how that affected your decision to study abroad on your current program choice. c. Make this letter unique from the Statement of Commitment you submitted with your program application and discuss your specific plans to fund your study abroad experience. 3) Current Degree Progress Report. (Note: An overall grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred!) 4) Résumé - ONE TO TWO PAGES ONLY. 5) Financial Aid Award Letter. If you are receiving financial aid, provide a copy of the most recent Financial Aid award letter you have. 6) Letter of Recommendation from a UWSP faculty member who supports your goals for study abroad and understands your need for this scholarship. NOTE: The faculty recommendation submitted with your program application cannot be reused for your scholarship application. If your recommendation is submitted separately, you are responsible for verifying the letter of recommendation was received by the scholarship deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed! Selection of recipients and award amounts will be announced in the first week of November. Notification will be by email.
