If you have questions about the lab or need to contact my for any reason, please send me an email. In addition to the Canvas page, I will post information to http://www.math.utah.edu/~msmith (go to Current Teaching and the class). Students will work on problem worksheets in small groups. The problems will provide guided practice with basic methods, as well as longer in-depth problems with physical and engineering applications. Lab participation is worth 5% of the total course grade. Lab assignments are worth 15% of the total course grade, and will be graded based on correctness. I will not accept late lab assignments, but I will drop the lowest lab score. Points can be taken off if the presentation is not clear. Examples: o If I cannot read your handwriting. o If a question asks for a graph (not a sketch) and the graph is unlabeled or is mostly inaccurate. o If major steps of the problem are missing, or an answer is given with no work or explanation. I will put your grades online on Canvas. I would advise you to check your grades often to make sure there were no data entry mistakes. I am always happy to correct any mistakes I have made, you just need to let me know about them. You may find it helpful to have a graphing calculator for your own personal use, or to use computational software such as Maple, MATLAB, or Mathematica. The computer lab in the Mathematics Student Center has some of this software available for you to use. While using computational tools correctly is an important skill, you still need to know how to work problems by hand.
