ISU’s Taylor pleads guilty to fifth-degree theft
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Suspended Iowa State guard Mike Taylor
pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of fifth degree theft and was ordered to pay
$182 in fines and court fees.
Taylor, 21, and James Johnson, 20, of Marshalltown, were cited by Ames police
over the weekend and accused of shoplifting a box of cold medicine.
Taylor still faces a June 7 court date after he was arrested last month and
accused of vandalizing an on-campus apartment building in February. Iowa State
University police charged him with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
According to police, Taylor damaged a light cover and an exit sign. Liquid
detergent was spread over a wall and a fire extinguisher was discharged during
the incident, police said.
Under Iowa State’s student-athlete code of conduct, Taylor was automatically
suspended from the team pending the outcome of the vandalism case.
