High Plains Journal, KS 04-21-07 Iowa's 2006 Master Pork Producer class announced Iowa The Iowa Pork Producers Association and Iowa State University Extension have selected eight outstanding pork producers and their operations as Master Pork Producers for 2006. The following producers will be honored during the 2007 Iowa Pork Congress as Master Pork Producers for 2006: --Craig and Lynn Wright, Brighton, Washington County; --Harlan and Janice Van Roekel, Orange City, Sioux County; --Bruce and Donna Amundson, Larrabee, Cherokee County; --James Hitchler, LeMars, Plymouth County; --Gary Meinders, Buffalo Center, Kossuth County; --Jim, Steve and Mike Bartling, Ackley, Franklin County; --Kevin Decker, Monticello, Jones County; and --Wendell and Helen Eley and Raymond and Tamara Eley, Zearing, Story County. These outstanding producers were nominated by their neighbors and peers and are being recognized for their innovation, attention to quality, efficiency and production records within their farm business. All of the 2006 Master Pork Producers are industry leaders committed to producing the highest quality pork products. Their operations are environmentally sound and they care about the livestock. They are good neighbors and active in their community. Coordinated by IPPA and Iowa State University Extension, the Master Pork Producer program began with the start of World War II in 1942 and has continued since. The original purpose of the program was to increase pork and lard production in the state of Iowa during the war. The program gives recognition to the top producers in the state based on a number of characteristics, including operational innovation, quality, efficiency, production records and a concentrated expertise in a segment of the total production cycle.
