Message from the editor: Iowa has chance to be energy leader

Ethanol itself is not the goal.
Energy security and lower greenhouse gases are the goal. Economic
development for the entire state and prosperity for rural Iowa are the potential.
Dr. Robert Brown, of Iowa State University, framed the issue just this way
recently for a group of Des Moines leaders, and he was right.
Iowa's and the nation's interests are intersecting on this issue, 10 months before
the Iowa caucuses. Our experts are organizing information to help you consider
how Iowa should lead in the energy industry and how to engage the presidential
candidates.
We'll bring you a special section every five or six weeks until fall and interactive
content on our Web site. Each will explain the latest activity and potential impact
of one aspect of the debate - the science, the environment, who is spending the
money, the latest research, the candidates' positions and more.
