Jackson J. Spielvogel, Western Civilization (Seventh Edition)

A student must withdraw from class on, or before, April 27, 2012. There will be no withdrawals after

December 9th. A student who withdraws on, or before, April 27, 2012, will receive a grade of “W”. A student who remains in class after April 27th will receive the grade earned for the course.

Students will be allowed to make-up a mid-term or final exam missed because of an excused absence.

Students who miss a daily quiz because of an excused absence will not be allowed to make-up the quiz but the calculation of the chapter quiz grade will be adjusted so that the missed grade will not be counted. For the definition of an excused absence, see the Standard College Policies, which contain the stipulation that an absence will be considered excused only if extenuating circumstances are documented. A student must be able to verify such extenuating circumstances as sickness, death in the immediate family, military, or certain legal obligations. Work-related excuses, child-care, and travel will not excuse an absence. The student must submit appropriate documentation of extenuating circumstances to the instructor within one week of returning to class. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the instructor to make up missed work.

NOTE: Effective January 1, 2005, the manner in which make up work, test(s), or assignments will be given for excused absences, as allowed by the Standard College Policies, shall be left solely to the discretion of the instructor.

This is just what it appears to be. Every day you will have a brief (no more than 10/15 minutes) quiz. The questions will be multiple-guess maybe even a brief essay or identification. A schedule of the material from the textbook to be covered on each quiz is in the course outlines included with this syllabus. Daily quizzes also may include questions from lectures given in class on previous days . The daily quizzes will count for twenty per cent (20%) of your grade in the course.

You will have two mid-term exams. The tentative dates provided in the course outline included with this syllabus. Tentatively, the first mid-term will cover chapters 1-5 from the textbook and material given in lecture for those chapters. The second mid-term will cover chapters 6-10 of the textbook and material given in lecture on those chapters. Questions on the mid-term exams multiple-choice, essay, and identifications. Each mid-term examination will count for twenty-five per cent (25%) of your grade in the course.

The final examination will include two sections. The first section will address the material covered in the textbook and lecture since the last mid-term exam. The second section will be “comprehensive” and address all the material covered in lecture and in the textbook throughout the course. The final examination will count for thirty per cent (30%) of your grade in the course. The final exam is scheduled for May 1, 2012, 10:30 am—12:30 pm.
