Lesson Plans
for November 9, 2015- November 13, 2015
Monday and Tuesday- Equations and Functions (Standard 8.F.4)
I can give examples of functions (equations and situations) that are linear and non-linear.
Students will work cooperatively to determine if equations are linear or non-linear. Students will display work and
show thought process on chart paper. Students will use dry-erase markers on the desks to determine relationship
of equations. Students will be given various equations and asked to notice trends. Students will be asked to
produce their own equations of linear and non-linear relationships. Students will need to analyze a word problem
to determine if the relationships are linear or non-linear.
Formative Assessment: Exit Slip
Wednesday- Functions (Standard 8.F.4) (VETERAN’S DAY Program 2nd Period)
I can write an equation to model a function from a table.
Students will apply knowledge of functions and function tables to find patterns and determine the equation of a
function. Students will work independently to determine equations from tables.
Re-Teach/Re-Take
Students will work independently to retest on previous targets (finding a pattern in a sequence, determining if a
relation is a function from ordered pairs, table, mapping, graph, explaining the relationship of a function as exactly
one input to an output, and determining independent and dependents variables)
Formative Assessment: Re-Takes
Thursday- Functions (8.F.2)
I can construct a graph to model a function situation, given a context or table.
Students will have different situations and asked to create an equation, table, and graph from the situation.
Students will take real world problems and relate knowledge of functions to write an equation to model the
situation. Students will be asked to independently construct a graph of a functional situation and describe the
relationship of the graph. Students will be asked to determine the initial value and write an equation.
Formative Assessment: Observation
Friday- Equations (8.EE.7.a)
I can solve multi-step equations.
Students will work collaboratively to solve equations and puzzles. Students will also work on skills using MobyMax
to work on skills. Students will then discuss equations and solve for the missing values in multi-step and
substitution of equations.
