B ROW N LAURA H A RDIN MA RS H A LL P LAG IA RIS M P REVEN T ION P ROG RA M W EB S T ER UN IVERS IT Y ’S FAC ULT Y DEVELOP MEN T C EN T ER REPORTING INSTANCES OF ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y ¡ Whenever a student has committed plagiarism, either intentionally or not, it’s important to communicate the incident to the university ¡ Even if instructors prefer to handle the situation personally and no further action is required, it’s still important to document the incident ¡ This helps the university maintain consistent records and track repeated offenses REPORTING INSTANCES OF ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y ¡ For most instructors, instances of dishonesty are caught via Turnitin reports, viewed through WorldClassRoom ¡ To make documenting such incidents quicker, the Academic Dishonesty Report is therefore accessible in WorldClassRoom as well ¡ Consider the following steps to complete this process VIEWING ASSIGNMENTS IN WORLDCLASSROOM ¡ In WorldClassRoom, you have two different assignment views you may see, depending on how you prefer to grade/view assignments § Regular mode or SpeedGrader ¡ In either one, there’s a HELP link in the upper right corner. THE HELP LINK THE HELP OPTIONS ¡ Clicking on either of those Help links opens this menu ¡ Parts of the menu may be different for certain instructors ¡ The key features will remain the same, though THE HELP OPTIONS ¡ Note that one of these options is an Academic Dishonesty Report ¡ Also of note to some instructors might be the Students at Risk Form THE ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y REPORT ¡ Selecting the Academic Dishonesty Report takes you to a form ¡ Provide as much information as possible about the incident as well as basic information about yourself, the course, and the student THE ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y REPORT ¡ Once the primary information has been provided, consider what further supporting documentation you should include ¡ Supporting documentation will often entail the Turnitin Report § The Plagiarism Prevention staff can assist with this step if you’re unsure how to download the report ¡ If the incident was discovered through other means, provide those ¡ If the Turnitin Report isn’t accessible, then the original document submitted by the student is also effective THE ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y REPORT ¡ Any exchanges with the student (e-mail, Canvas messages, etc.) may also be of assistance ¡ If the student at any time admits guilt or otherwise conveys telling information about the incident, this is important to communicate as well § Even if documentation isn’t possible, a description of the verbal account is helpful ¡ Overall, any further information about the incident and its history will allow us to evaluate the situation more effectively THE ACADEMIC DISHONEST Y REPORT ¡ Note: there’s not an option to attach documentation in this Academic Dishonesty Reporting Form Gather the materials that support the incident and email them separately to acadintegrity@webster.edu ¡ From there, either Dr. Carolyn I. Brown or Laura Hardin Marshall will respond to your report and communicate with you further as needed to assess what additional steps need to be taken to resolve the incident
