Minutes of the Meeting of the Departmental Advisory Board

The DAB Meeting of the Department of Teacher Education for the year 2013-14 was held on

28 th

December, 2012 at 10.00 AM in the Seminar Room, DTE, 3 rd

floor, Zakir Hussain Block,

NCERT, New Delhi under the chairmanship of Prof.S.K.Yadav Head,DTE.

Prof. S.K. Yadav, Head, DTE, welcomed all the members and Special Invitees of the DAB.

He provided a brief overview of the role and function of the department. He also apprised the members about the major activities of the department undertaken during last five years. He also briefed about the major research studies done by the departmental Specially Research

Project assigned by the MHRD entitled “A Study of the Impact of In-service Teacher

Training under SSA on classroom Transaction.” He also shared with the DAB members that department is also taking all challenges and doing work in the area of teacher education.

He requested the members to provide their views, comments and suggestions on the work done by the department so that we can improve our programmes. The DAB members appreciated the work done by the department and gave their observations and suggestions.

Prof. Daya Pant, Head, DEPFE suggested that whenever department take any research study and other developmental and training programmes, the DEPFE should be involved in that, it will enrich the quality of programmes.

Prof. G.N.P. Srivastava appreciated the work done by the department. He suggested that department should organize more training programmes for the teacher educators of IASEs,

CTEs, along with controlling officers. He also suggested that in the Conference of Directors

of SCERTs/SIEs, we can discuss why IASEs & CTEs are not performing well in their respective states. He was also of the opinion of that department should organize some orientation programmes for RIEs faculty of Teacher Education.

Prof.N.K.Jangira opined that inter departmental and intra departmental collaboration/coordination should be reflected in the programmes. He also suggested that the faculty members who had gone to field visit, their experiences should be reflected in the department activities and programmes.

Dr. Bhawana expressed her concern about the training of teacher educators of Science &

Maths of U.P. She also suggested that in the training programmes for teacher educators, teachers of KGBV from U.P. should be called. She also shared her concern that in the

SCERTs Director’s Conference, Director of SIESE, SIE and other state Department should also be called.

Prof. D.K. Vaid, Dean, Coordination has shown his concern about the quality of various programmes conducted so far.

Prof. Hukum Singh, Dean, Academic appreciate the work done by the department and made comments on inter departmental collaboration in developmental work and training programmes. He made some general comments regarding programmes that field visit experiences of the faculty should be reflected in the programme proposals presents in DAB agenda.

Prof. Yadav, Head, DTE clarified their doubts and presented project proposals for the year

2013-14 before DAB members for their suggestions and comments:-

New programmes

1. A study of Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum in Different States of India

The proposal was shared with DAB members for their comments and suggestions for improvement before submitting to ERIC for approval. The proposal was discussed in detail and following observation/suggestions were made:

Proposals must be developed as per ERIC Proforma

Detailed research design should include sampling, tools to be used for data collation etc.

All Multicentric studies done by DER on Teacher Education should be included in the review of related studies.

Orientation Programme for Teacher Educators of College of Teacher Education CTEs on

Emerging Issues on Teacher Education

The training design should be included in proposal.

Teacher educators of teaching Science and Maths should be included in the training programme.

It was suggested by DAB members that selected Innovative Practices & Experiments in

Education should be shared with others and may be published in journals.

In the concluding remarks Head, DTE appreciated the contribution and suggestions of the members for improving the programmes and activities of the departments.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
