Implementing the Pennsylvania Program-to-Program Articulation Agreement in Psychology
April 2012
Community college transfers who have completed an associate degree in Psychology from a Pennsylvania
community college and who wish to pursue a bachelor degree in Psychology from Edinboro University
should consult with an Edinboro University Psychology Department adviser prior to registering for the
first semester of classes at Edinboro University. With the assistance of the adviser, a four-semester plan
to complete the baccalaureate degree in Psychology through 60 additional credit hours of course work at
Edinboro University will be constructed.
The four-semester plan will consist of 37 to 40 credit hours in Psychology plus 20 to 23 hours of General
Education and Free Electives coursework, for a total of 60 credit hours earned at Edinboro University.
Total transfer credits plus Edinboro credits will consist of 42 credit hours of General Education, 26 credit
hours of Free Electives and 52 credit hours of Psychology, for a total of 120. Should coursework be
pursued at another institution while enrolled at Edinboro University, a minimum of 28 hours in
Psychology and a minimum of 30 of the last 45 hours overall must be completed at Edinboro. The foursemester plan must also fulfill the requirement that 42 credit hours consist of advanced coursework as
specified in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Board of Governor’s Policy
1960-06-A: Academic Degrees as amended on January 19, 2012.
All students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Psychology are required to maintain a minimum of a 2.5
overall grade point average in courses taken at Edinboro University. Additionally, all courses required
for the degree in Psychology at Edinboro University, both within the major and General Education must
be a C or better. This requirement of a C or better in all required coursework can be understood through
the following examples.
Transfer Student 1
Introductory Psychology
Psychological Statistics
Experimental Psychology
Math 104
English 102
C

Transfer Student 1 moves forward with all the next theory and lab courses. If a transfer student, he or she
will only need 60 hours total at Edinboro University to complete the degree barring no Ds or Fs in
required coursework.
Transfer Student 2
Introductory Psychology
Psychological Statistics
Experimental Psychology
Math 104
English 102
D

Transfer Student 2 would need to repeat both Introductory Psychology and Math 104 resulting in the need
for 66 hours at Edinboro University (a repeat of these two courses plus the 60 hours) to complete the
degree barring no Ds or Fs in required coursework. It is possible that Transfer Student 2 could take a
higher math course, e.g. Math 105, earn a C or better, and use the Math 104 as a free elective, resulting in
the need for only 63 hours at Edinboro. This assumes that there is still a need for free elective
coursework which would be based in part on the courses completed at the community college.
It should be noted that these examples are consistent with what is required of students who begin their
academic career as a Psychology major at Edinboro University. Should a transfer student be in the
position of needing to repeat a required course due to a grade of D, enrollment in summer classes can
facilitate degree completion within two years.
