Large-scale grant proposals for a huge amount of money can be pages long. But since grants from
Service Learning/ASLCEAC are usually for a few hundred dollars or less, we recommend that student groups use the letter proposal, which usually is no longer than three pages.

Ask for the gift
Describe the need
Explain what your group will do
Provide timeline
Provide information about your group
Include a budget
Close
Include attachment
Begin with a reference to Service Learning/
ASLCEAC as the funder of the grant
State the reason you are writing and the amount of funding you will need
Explain to Service Learning/ASLCEAC the purpose of the grant
Will your group seek to correct a problem? or
Will your group seek to fulfill a need?
Provide enough detail to make Service
Learning/ASLCEAC interested in your proposal
Describe exactly what you will do if you receive the grant:
How will your group correct the problem that you earlier described? or
How will your group fulfill the need that you earlier described?
In you timeline be sure to include:
hours of service involved
planning hours professor consultation hours
Include your mission statement
Briefly describe
the purpose of your group
the number of members in your group the leadership of your group, if appropriate
Briefly describe how this service learning project ties in with your academic course
Indicate the total cost of the project
Break down the total cost in distinct elements
Perhaps use a table to show these costs
Call attention to the future and the change that will result from your completed project
Offer to provide more details
Express your willingness to meet with Service
Learning/ASLCEAC
Provide contact information, including phone number and email address
A copy of incorporation as 501(c) (3) for the
Community Partner
Written approvals of the Community Partner and student’s instructor
A signed statement that you will write a completion report at the end of the service learning project
Grant Contact Information form
Once you submit your proposal, be prepared to wait for a result
If Service Learning/ASLCEAC asks for additional information, provide it as soon as possible
If letter proposal is granted, take a few moments to acknowledge Service Learning’s support with a letter of thanks.
