The Honors Program at Kutztown University is a tight-knit community, and requires drive and leadership
potential. We seek applicants with sufficient motivation to succeed. You will be expected to take challenging
courses, work directly with faculty, take leadership roles, and ultimately deliver a professional-level capstone
project. Documents to be submitted along with this application are a letter of recommendation and a 500 word
essay on your academic goals and/or leadership goals.

Essay Topic: My Academic Work, Leadership and Goals
We request a narrative that shows how you have exercised leadership and boldness in your academic work. How
did you go beyond the minimum required of you?
Length: This essay should be at least 500 words and typed (about two pages, double-spaced). Define “Academic
Work” broadly to include any efforts related to your school work or academic subjects and goals.

Letter of Recommendation
Please ask a counselor, mentor, teacher or professor who knows you to write a recommendation letter attesting to
your potential for academic work and academic leadership. Please have them include contact information in case
we need to contact them. Please supply your teacher with a stamped, addressed envelope, as references are to be
sent directly to us by them. If the person recommending you wishes to send an electronic recommendation letter
IT MUST BE SIGNED electronically.
All required documents should be received in our office before you will be considered for our program. Please be sure
that you have done everything as outlined above.
