The redesigned PSAT/NMSQT was administered in October, and the redesigned SAT has finally made its debut. Come learn how you can make sense of the information it provides you and your students. Topics covered will include understanding new scores and what they mean, using concordance to compare previous scores to redesigned test scores, getting the most out of the new reporting portal, and creating personalized practice through Khan Academy. The Transfer Enrollment Process (Academic Forum, Room 103) This session will be an open forum. Some of the topics for discussion can include: when to advise students to transfer to a four-year institution from a two-year institution, how to advise students interested in majors with specific requirements (arts, education, pre-medical), core-to-core agreements and transferability of courses, reverse articulation agreements and how they work, and the transfer of credits from Associate’s degree programs into Bachelor’s degree programs. Four-year and two-year institutions can work together to meet the needs and goals of both the student and the institution. Questions and Answers with PA State System Deans & Directors (Academic Forum, Room 200) Meet the deans/directors of admissions, or their representative, from the 14 PA State System universities for an open Q& A session. This is an opportunity to learn more about system-wide or individual university processes, events, requirements, etc. NCAA Eligibility Changes and Updates (Academic Forum, Room 102) The purpose of this session is to inform and update high school and community college counselors about changes to initial eligibility standards as they relate to the NCAA Eligibility Center. These standards will be applicable to students first enrolling in college on or after August 1, 2018. This impacts current sophomores in high school and younger. Two-year college transfer regulations have also changed, beginning August 1, 2016. Changes in Financial Aid and the FAFSA (Academic Forum, Room 101) New for the 2017-2018 year, students can complete the FAFSA beginning October 2016! We’ll talk about what that means for students and how you can help us communicate this new information. We’ll also share new scholarship initiatives here at KU and how your students can qualify for them. The College Search Process (Academic Forum, Room 103) For new high school counselors or those seeking a fresh prospective. Review examples of college planning guides, important college event opportunities, unique college exploration initiatives, and peer to peer discussion.
