1 Assessment of Instructional Programs’ Student Learning Outcomes at Kutztown University Five Year Reviews One mechanism for monitoring the assessment of program student learning outcomes is through the Five Year Program Review as mandated by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (Administrative Procedure for Board of Governors’ Policy 1986-04-A: Program Review: http://www.passhe.edu/inside/policies/BOG_Policies/Policy%201986-04.pdf). At Kutztown University, the program review, which includes a five year assessment plan, is submitted to the appropriate college dean, who submits the review to the Office of the Provost, and then to the Program Review subcommittee of the Strategic Planning & Resource Committee (see http://www.kutztown.edu/committees/sprc/pdfs/SPRCbylaws.pdf, page 4. A post-review debriefing is held with the Program Chair, Dean, Provost, Vice Provost, Institutional Research Manager, and Assistant Vice Provost for Assessment. Exemptions from Five Year Reviews are granted to those programs with specialized accreditation. For the schedule for program reviews and specialized accreditations, see http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/assessment/accreditation_&_program_review.asp. Annual Assessment Plans and Reports: Instructional Programs At the end of each academic year, instructional programs submit reports of the previous year’s assessments and an assessment plan for the upcoming academic year. Kutztown University utilizes Nuventive’s assessment management system, TracDat. Annual reports and plans are reviewed by the appropriate department chair, college dean, and Provost’s Office. Members of the KU community who are responsible for their program’s assessments access TracDat here: http://kuptracdat.passhe.edu/tracdat/.
