To use databases effectively, refer to the “How to use” database guides available from the Information Desk and via email (see at end) for off campus learners. These guides include useful hints on effective and advanced search strategies and techniques.

Finding a thesis

Monash theses received since 1986 are included in the library catalogue. Use the key words ‘ Monash thesis’ with your own subject eg ‘ nursing Monash thesis’.

Australian theses

Search the databases Libraries Australia and Australasian Digital Theses Program .

Overseas theses

Search the database Index to theses in Great Britain and Ireland for British theses and ProQuest Dissertations & theses for selected international masters theses and doctoral dissertations with an emphasis on North America.

Obtaining a non-Monash thesis

If the library does not hold the thesis you require it may be obtained though the Document Delivery Service. It is usually purchased and may take some time before you will be able to access it.

Keeping current - Alerts

In order for you to stay up-to-date with research in your area, some databases offer an alerting service. This means that you can save searches in your area of interest, and when the database is updated you will be emailed the newest records that match that search.
