As I come to the close of
my second and final year
as Chair of the UK affiliate
I can reflect on the
achievements
of

an
extremely difficult economic background.

The strength of our society
comes from its members
and volunteers. I would like
to take this opportunity to
thank the board members,
regional chairs and committee members as well as
all those who have assisted in the UK affiliate events
over the past two years.
I would also like to give
special thanks to Brian
Sixsmith for his long, loyal
and committed service to
the UK Affiliate.

it is a sign of their commitment that the activities of
the UK Affiliate continue
with a wide range seminars, meetings and educational events.
Our society remains financially strong and these
funds will be used to
launch a number of initiatives to provide greater
member benefit, including
continued support of the
Communities of Practice
and the development of a

Bruce is a Chartered
Chemical Engineer, and
runs a Process Consultancy
specialising in biopharmaceutical technology. Prior
to that he led the manufacturing technology group for
Avecia, a rapidly growing
biologics contract manufacturer, which is where he

Bruce comments:
“ISPE is well placed to support its members as they
compete in a global market,
with tough economic pressures, and rapidly changing
technology and regulations.
“A good example is the large
number of UK Affiliate
approved trainers for ISPE
training courses. We aim to
capitalise on that in the coming year, by trialling local
delivery of ISPE training
courses in the UK, starting
with HVAC. Cost effective
training, without the overhead of international travel,
is a big benefit for members
and their employers.”

COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE
GAMP COP
GAMP UK held its most recent
meeting on 5th April 2011, kindly
hosted by PerkinElmer at their
Seer
Green
site
in
Buckinghamshire. There were 55
delegates registered to attend this
free of charge but highly regarded
event. Attendees gave strongly
positive feedback about the value
of the day and the quality of the
speakers.
The next GAMP UK meeting will be
on 18th October 2011, in
Daresbury, Cheshire, sponsored
by ABB. The agenda includes a
case study on outsourcing, a presentation on moving a complex
organisation to a single Quality
Management System, an insight
from an equipment supplier looking
at satisfying both regulated and
non-regulated industries, and a
case study around the new
Process Control Systems guide, as
well as the regular GAMP and regulatory updates.
If you would like to attend this free
of charge event, please send your
details to gampukcop@gmail.com.
EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
The UK Affiliate will be planning a
number of training events with
ISPE certified trainers starting with
a 2-day course on HVAC for

This course will provide a detailed
description of HVAC system fundamentals, including a discussion of
primary system components such
as fans, coils, humidifiers, and filters. Participants will receive an
overview of critical parameters for
products and processes that can
be affected by HVAC, and explore
the basic concepts of controlling
these parameters using properly
designed HVAC control systems
As part of the training, participants
will receive a copy of the ISPE
Good Practice Guide: Heating,
Ventilation and Air Conditioning
