Here is my “closing the loop” statement for Ns 1410. Let me know if it is adequate or not. Over the past couple of years a new lab manual was written to improve the student’s ability to learn the concepts within each lab experiment. The focus on learning the “why” of each experiment seems to have helped the students in the lab. The course is taught by graduate students and the students are required to complete their lab reports before they leave lab if time permits. This allows them access to the TA for additional explanation. In lecture, handouts of the power point notes are required for all students, and we have an online review for each exam. Each semester the students evaluate the lab and lecture instructors which enables us to identify strengths and weaknesses of the course design or a particular instructor. In addition, the student’s formal evaluation is used as a method of ongoing assessment for the lab/lecture.
