Chabot College / Fall „09 English 102/ Zappa FINAL EXAM: GROUP TEACHING PRESENTATIONS For your final group presentations, you will be “teaching” the rest of the class the essay assigned to your group from Outsiders Within. You will be given class time to plan. In addition, when we go to the WRAC Center you can do some research on the topics involved in the essay you‟ll teach. It‟s up to your group to figure out what kind of approach you‟ll take. When you present and teach your topic, you must include, at a minimum, the following: 1) a summary of the essay from our text, detailed enough that the class can understand the “whole picture” 2) identification of the group(s) who are most affected; how cultural identity plays a part 3) inclusion of one outside source (from the Chabot databases) that further explores or develops the topic, or that shows another perspective (a brief summary) 4) “so what?” tell us why we should care; why does this topic/issue have a potential impact on us? 5) some sort of visual aid, game, and/or skit that will illustrate your topic Be creative! There are many effective ways to give the class a sense of the topic and why it matters. Show us a skit, create a comic strip, make a poster or a video (just to name a few ideas). Power Point information does not count as a visual aid, though you may use it to help present your information. You will be graded individually for these presentations; in order to receive credit, you must each speak and make a clear contribution to your group. Part of your grade is based on how well you balance the presentation, so make sure that one or two people don‟t do most of the talking. Be focused and prepared, and DO NOT READ to us. If you are absent the day of or final, you may not make up the assignment nor will you receive any credit; you are also responsible for contacting your group members so they can prepare to cover for you. In Writing: In a typed, ONE-page, double-spaced piece, please include the following: one half page summary on what you learned about your topic in the process of this final assignment; and one half page explaining whether or not you are ready for 1A and why. 25 points OUR FINAL IS WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16th FROM 8:00 – 9:50 a.m., 15 - 20 minutes per group: 50 points
