BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING Industrial engineers serve an essential need in today’s technical society. As the interface between people and technology, industrial engineers work to improve the quality and efficiency of the production of goods and services. The Cal State East Bay Industrial Engineering Department provides the depth and caliber of academic preparation required to excel in this field. The Profession Industrial engineers solve engineering problems by applying scientific logic and systems methodology and by utilizing information, energy, materials, facilities and personnel most effectively. The Industrial Engineering program at California State University, East Bay provides students with technical and problem solving capabilities, and understanding of real-world business in an engineering environment. Program Strengths • Strong curriculum involving many opportunities for students to work on practical real-life projects • Proximity to a diverse industry base provides good opportunities for internships and co-op education • Strong departmental ties with industry creates ample opportunities for placement of program graduates Ideal Students • Freshman and transfer students desiring to work with a team of engineers to design and manage manufacturing and service systems • Students interested in any of the areas of ergonomics, quality systems, optimization, simulation, reliability, product design and work systems design Program Outcomes Graduates of the program will: • Exhibit evidence of successfully applying learned skills in their professional pursuits • Have an aptitude for continuous learning • Have the ability to communicate effectively and work well in teams • Be recognized as qualified engineers with high ethical standards Career Opportunities • Opportunities to pursue a variety of industrial jobs, including industrial engineer, management engineer, manufacturing engineer, production engineer, product line manager, project manager, systems management and quality engineer • Ability to work in variety of manufacturing as well as service industries • Governments, airlines, manufacturing, package delivery and transportation companies all hire industrial engineering graduates • Advancement to management positions Admission Requirements As part of the University admission process, students are required to take the Mathematics (ELM) and English (EPT) placement tests to determine appropriate class enrollments in mathematics and English. Prospective engineering students should complete high school level math (at least 3 years, 4 preferred), chemistry and physics. Courses in computer programming and technical drawing are recommended.
