Chabot College September, 1992 Course Outline for Physical Education 2 DISABLED STRENGTH TRAINING Catalog Description: PHED 2DST – Disabled Strength Training 1 unit By asking each disabled student to fill out a medical survey, and bring in any prescribed exercises from previous therapy we plan an individualized program of resistance exercises to aid them in gaining strength, balance and mobility. The class will meet 3 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: By asking each disabled student to fill out a medical survey, and bring in any prescribed exercises from previous therapy we plan an individualized program of resistance exercises to aid them in gaining strength, balance and mobility. Course Content: Using a combination of free weights, weight machines and pulley systems with variable weight we plan to increase the strength of any and all functional muscle groups. We will also work on muscle groups that may not be functional through range of movement and stretching. Methods of Presentation: A planned series of strength and mobility exercises for each student explaining to each what we are attempting to do for them and how we will attempt to accomplish this. Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: Attendance, willingness to work and measurement of gains in strength and mobility. Textbook: None Special Student Material: Students will be expected to come to class in clothing appropriate for the type of work we are planning to do.
