TELEVISION SPORTS PRODUCTION

72- Television Sports Production
(May be repeated 3 times)
2.0 units
Introduction to the exciting field of television sports production. This course offers hands-on
experience in: LIVE broadcast of Chabot College home games and production of the Chabot Sports
Show, both of which are broadcast on Chabot TV on Comcast cable channel 27. Other topics
include: shooting and editing sports highlights and features, field production, sports field reporting,
interviewing athletes, and news writing. Strongly recommended: Mass Communications 33A. 1 hour
lecture, 4 hours laboratory.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
1. Explain the roles of the broadcast sports production team members;
2. Conduct sports interviews in the studio and on location;
3. Operate studio and location video cameras and associated equipment;
4. Develop scripts and script outlines for a studio-based sports talk show;
5. Describe the structure of sports talk shows;
6. Produce and/or direct a sports-talk show;
7. Work in various crew positions (i.e. camera operator, floor director, switcher, audio and graphics);
8. Plan remote coverage of a sporting event;
9. Cover a remote sporting event as a camera operator;
10. Edit a show segment for broadcast from footage of that event.
