Tailored to individual student’s needs and goals. Corequisite: enrollment in any Gateway to Success English, Mathematics, or Physics course. 2-6 hours. [Typical contact hours: 35 - 105] Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course the student should be able to: 1. read in an engaged, active style; 2. effectively apply appropriate reading strategies across the curriculum; 3. pre-read material in order to form questions that promote comprehension, recall and critical thinking; 4 recognize writing structures common in academic texts in order to improve focus and comprehension in reading and writing; 5. write academic papers from planning stages to the final draft that are appropriate to discipline, audience, and purpose; 6. proofread their own prose; 7. apply strategies for effective problem solving in English, mathematics, and science.
