Chabot College/Las Positas College February, 1994 Course Outline for Electronics Technology 84 SATELLITE AND CABLE SYSTEMS Catalog Description: 84 - Satellite and Cable Systems - 2 units (May be repeated three times) Fundamentals of satellite and cable television systems (CATV). Includes electronic and mechanical aspects of satellite communication systems and of cable television (CATV) systems; theory, operation, testing, and the alignment of these systems. Prerequisite: Electronics Technology 82 and Electronics Technology 64C or equivalent. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. describe the subsystems of a television receiver (TVRO) earth station; 2. understand how the different subsystems of a TVRO earth station interact with each other to form a complete system; 3. perform site analysis for installation of a TVRO earth station; 4. perform an alignment of the TVRO antenna; 5. troubleshoot a TVRO system; 6. describe the subsystems in a cable television system; 7. describe signal conditioning and signal distribution in cable systems; 8. troubleshoot a cable system.
