Catalog Description:
500 – Early Childhood Development Supplemental Instruction Laboratory
0 units
Supervised supplemental instruction in skills related to mastery of developmentally
appropriate practices and principles of early childhood required by the Child Development
Permit issued by the State of California. Co-requisite: ECD 50, ECD 51, ECD 62, or
ECD63. Variable hours laboratory.
Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course student should be able to:
1. identify the components of a quality early childhood program through the use of
various assessment tools.
2. identify developmental milestones of young children.
3. analyze recorded observations in relation to early childhood theories and
developmentally appropriate practices.
4. identify community resources that support children and families.

a. observe and write evaluations of early childhood programs

d. using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) assessment
tool , rate an early childhood program

a. Improved proficiency as demonstrated by students’ performance in linked
classes including performance on final exam
