Chabot College Fall 2001 Replaced Fall 2006 Course Outline for Dental Hygiene 55A DENTAL MATERIALS Catalog Description: 55A - Dental Materials 1 unit General and specialty practice materials and techniques. Prerequisite: Dental Hygiene 69A (completed with a grade of “C” or higher). 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. 9 weeks. Prerequisite Skills: Before entering the course the student should be able to: 1. demonstrate prevention of disease transmission, communicate OSHA guidelines; 2. communicate utilizing dental terminology; 3. analyze and interpret medical / dental histories; 4. acquire vital signs; 5. perform an extraoral / intraoral examination; 6. analyze periodontal assessment data; 7. describe etiology of dental caries and periodontal disease; 8. demonstrate and communicate dental notations for: a. restorative charting b. treatment documentation c. periodontal evaluation record; 9. assess personal plaque control measures; 10. integrate principles of scaling and root planing; 11. assess root morphology; 12. analyze accumulated materials on teeth.
