I nstructions: In the area below, please list your requested changes in course offerings (with reference to corresponding change in FTEF) and provide your rationale for these changes. Be sure to analyze enrollment trends and other relevant data (http://help/EMC/). Please seek your dean’s assistance as needed. Add two sections of TUTR1B, one each in fall and spring terms at a total increase of 1 CAH per year (.5 per semester) and reinstate our ESL TUTR1B section for at .5 CAH per semester. The total for reinstating ESLTUTR1B and for adding a new TUTR1B section for Business would be a total of 2 CAH per year. Rationale: We have a growing number of Business students requesting tutoring services and at this time they are not receiving sufficient subject-area training for this growing demand. Business tutors currently receive TUTR1A training and are enrolled in a general TUTR1B training course, but the growing number of issues and students tutors deal with can not be effectively handled by an instructor who is not adequately familiar with the nuances of the material or the needs of Business students. We also lost a section of ESL TUTR1B; a subject area that requires proper training and follow up by an instructor in that discipline. Losing this section not only means that ESL tutors are not getting the support they need but also that the Learning Connection has lost thier liaison to the ESL department. In order for the Learning Connection to be an effective and viable program, we need support and input from divisions and disciplines across campus. Losing that TUTR1B section broke the line of communication between the LC program and the ESL department which has watered down collaboration between faculty coordinators and diminished support for our tutors and ultimately, their tutees who make up a significant segment of the Chabot student body. The Tutor Training program is designed to meet the following college goals: Support Programs and initiatives that increase the success for all students in our diverse community. D4 Support effective communication both in the college and the community. a. promote and support a college-wide dialogue on the improvement of teaching, learning and institutional effectiveness b. Identify and implement concrete ways to increase mutual support, acknowledgement and exchange among staff Additionally, by supporting the Peer Advising Program and peer advisors’ training, the Learning Connection is supporting the following Chabot College Unit Plan, Part IV strategic goal: D2. Streamline academic and student support services. a. Identify and implement concrete ways to ensure collaboration between academic and student services in all aspects of planning, development and implementation.
