Senior Chemist The Senior Chemist position is responsible for: Providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple of moderate to difficult complex problems. Leadership of the assessment, development, reformulation, quality, maintenance, and enhancement of products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results. Development of solutions for complex technical problems (product/process) and demonstration of expert knowledge in the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates and instruments. Expertise in at least one or more broad area or a related specialized area. Preserving technical resource base by issuing periodic reports on development projects and reformulations. Substantiate formula changes with documentation. Providing technical support to marketing, sales and manufacturing to help provide an orderly flow of product and information to Sherwin‐Williams customers. Developing new/innovative coating products that will allow the P&M development laboratory to provide unique solutions to our customers. Experience Required: 5 to 8 years of experience formulating and testing solvent‐borne and water‐borne acrylic, alkyd, epoxy and urethane chemistries. Broad and deep understanding of the coatings industry. Proven ability to use fundamental polymer properties to predict end‐use performance. Application and troubleshooting of flooring and general industrial coatings Production processing experience. Familiarity with ASTM, SSPC, FDA and USDA testing methods Proven track record of generation of new knowledge, products, or procedures, to meet the business needs. Demonstrated use of Design of Experiments Proven ability to work effectively on cross‐functional project teams Ability to travel as needed domestically and internationally, to fulfill responsibilities of the position Self‐starter, highly motivated toward achievements, results oriented Solid record keeping skills Solid verbal and written communication skills. Solid PC skills including MS Office Education Required: Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
