January 28, 2010 12 Noon, Room 1506 In Attendance: See sign-in sheet Meeting Minutes: Minutes from previous meeting were distributed. The following corrections to be noted: 1. Special Report, Item B: Dave Fouquet noted that his statement was not that a future “IOB West” could also house a large lecture hall, but rather, if an “IOB West” was built and B1500 was removed, the vacated footprint could serve as the location of a future lecture hall. 2. Special Report, Item D: It was noted should be titled: Faculty Inquiry Network 3. Rumor Control: Jeannine Methe added that: The rumor control comment is incorrect and had nothing to do with cosmetic changes regarding window views as implied. The changes made surrounding the IT Building at LPC were mandatory due to the close proximity of the Central Utility Plant (CUP) with its large steel cylinders. Unlike at Chabot where the CUP is surrounded by block walls and the transformer is fully covered, the CUP structure at LPC had no such fencing. In addition, the corridor between the CUP and IT Building is a narrow, dead-end alley, posing after-hours security concerns for staff and equipment in the offices facing the CUP. Therefore, appropriate fencing was constructed to surround the CUP and security gates were installed to restrict the traffic between the buildings. (total of 12 offices impacted) Special Reports: A. B1400 / 1600 Industrial Arts Charles Ham presented the plans as submitted to DSA for the group to review. He noted that 2 rooms in B1600 would be used to house the CNC machines and lab. The computer labs currently in those rooms would be relocated within the building. The rear auto yard will be expanded. The college will lose 3 parking Chabot College Facilities and Sustainability Committee Minutes Page 2 spots with this expansion. Also new Handicap parking will be developed adjacent to the building. The construction will be phased to cause minimal impact to program delivery. Gordon asked if B1600 has sufficient data infrastructure to accommodate the new labs. Charlie stated that he had hired a new low-voltage consultant that will be looking into that issue. Project Status Update: An updated Project Status report was issued. Comments included: IOB – congratulations on a great new building, new corridor signage is needed, digital display is needed, users would like a shelf for books in the restroom, a training session on building use would be appreciated. B1900 – light dimming controls may not be in the correct location B500 – there may be some cooling problems. DH responded that the central plant is being tuned and is not working at full efficiency yet. Commissioning is being done. B300 – should there be student gathering spaces? B1100/1500/2000 – Wanda was very much in favor of making the 100 s.f. office the campus standard and not doing just a, “renovation light.” Mark said that the 100 s.f. office footprint allows him to work better and more efficiently. Gary, advocating for SOTA, said that their group does not want to change their office sizes but does expect, “renovation light.” Rumor Control: Dave Fouquet asked if B3400 Reprographics was being relocated to accommodate the new BMW program. Gordon stated that the Board approved the agreement with BMW at its last meeting. Doug said that Tom Clark recently called him to discuss possibilities with BMW but that they had not discussed specifics yet. His understanding was that BMW would be housed, at least temporarily, in the existing auto facilities. There is not currently any budget assigned to B3400 or this project. Gordon did not think that any decision on the relocation of Reprographics had been made. Other Matters Initiated: Mark Stephens pointed out that next year, 2011, will be Chabot College’s 50th anniversary and that he hopes that the college properly recognizes the anniversary and that the Facilities Committee also plays a roll in showing what has been accomplished on the campus.
