Department Meeting Minutes
November 14, 2012

Dean Mauch subjects:
NCATE is complete however the results are not public at this time. Committees must
continue working on the predictable steps. Strategic plan will continue moving forward.
Three recommendations for reconstruction are due to the Dean by spring break. Field
Director position will be posted-possible candidates are local furloughed teachers.
Protocol:
The order for complaints and/or comments is: Director, Chair, Dean, and then Provost.
No one is to deviate from this order.
Incomplete Grades:
We will comply with a practical timeline. The form will be completed in its entirety and
students must sign. Completions must be within the next semester or the grade reverts to
the earned grade. Extensions must be within reason. Faculty must follow up on the
status. Incomplete is for extreme circumstances and not just incomplete work. Grad
students use the R form.
Committee Reports:
Curriculum-they have 3 courses to review
Professional Development-Full time must provide 2 binders by March 1, 2013. A letter
will be sent with instructions. If narratives or other information is missing the binders
will be returned for completion. A current seniority list is needed. Requirements will be
available on the U: drive.
Promotion-no activity
Search and Screen-Posted are two full time tenure positions in Ed Leadership.
Temporary pool applicants are being interviewed and information on candidates is on the
U: drive. New hires reference and other paperwork are currently being processed.
Revision of courses for GEPs:
EDFOUND 406 will be processed next term by Nancy Bauer and Ralph Feather.
EDFOUND 251 should be completed this term. We need to obtain 1 GEP in citizenship.
EDFOUND 291 will continue to be processed.
COE Committee Reports:
Assessment Committee-Rubric should be motivation devise. Student Teacher Handbook
is being used to create an outline and must incorporate school districts requirements.
Students need to do what the districts need but must also provide us with our requirement
for assessment. Rubric should be used instead of a template.
Advanced Program Committee- Piloted the first Graduate Professional Seminar and the
data will be entered. Data will tie into Assessment and Field Experience committees
Field Experience Committee-Training for coop teachers-website has information
available. Revise the process of packet observations to placement by BU and not the
students.
Curriculum Committee-Processing as needed
Technology Committee-NCATE presentation
Recent Conference Highlights:
Penn State Conference-Ralph Feather-Controversial issues become part of research (ex.:
creation)
PAC1-Tom Starmack –iPad use/co student teaching model/assessment
PSECD-Ray Pastore-students attended/research involvement
Open Forum:
Ray Pastore will organize a Christmas party during the week of finals.
PSSA no longer offered at high school.
Ray Pastore has $2,300 available in Library funds.
Ralph Feather applied for a position at Indiana as Dean-the positions starts July 2013
Next meeting:
The next meeting will be February 13, 2013 at 3:00pm in MCHS 1148.
