Focus Group Meeting „Exchange between Europe and North Africa“ 19 – 21 October 2015 in Thessaloniki, Greece Venue: Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki Vasilissis Olgas 66 54642 Thessaloniki organised by: Supported by: Version: 20151012 Background and aims The aim of the NECE Focus Group “Exchange between Europe and North Africa“ is to support the establishment of a sustainable and long-term forum of exchange, knowledge transfer and co-operation between NECE and stakeholders of citizenship education in the Southern Mediterranean. Initiated at the NECE Conference in Córdoba in 2012, the Focus Group provides a regular basis for exchange among and with the MENA partners in a growing network. Topics of common concern are discussed and projects across the borders are initiated. Focus Group participants from Southern Mediterranean and European countries are convinced that both sides benefit from exchange, dialogue and co-operation. Both sides see the need to create networks of activists and experts in the field of citizenship education to strengthen the community to provide mutual support. The Focus Group consists of continuous members and regularly invites guests to its meetings. With this meeting we intend to: • Provide a space to prepare the conference topic and contribute to the conference results • Inspire cooperation and exchange between the Focus Group members and guests • Inform and discuss about upcoming events and projects to identify synergies and promote networking on Citizenship Education across the Mediterranean 2 Programme Monday, 19 October 2015 2:00 pm Arrival & Welcome Coffee Topic of the day: Introduction and clarification of expectations Afternoon session 3:00 pm Future of the Focus Group (members only) 4:30 pm Registration of Guests 4:45 pm Coffee Break Evening session 5:00 pm Welcome and introduction Mapping: Background and interest of participants Petra Grüne (Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb), Germany) Nelly Corbel (Lazord Foundation for Civic Leadership, France) Moez Ali (Union des Tunisiens Indépendants pour la Liberté (UTIL), Tunisia) Shahdan Arram (The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute (DEDI), Egypt) Part I: Conference Preparation: “Processes of Othering within and between societies and how to deal with it in Civic Education” 6:00 pm Sara Khorshid (Egypt): „Egypt - Two Sides of the Same Coin?
