NOW THAT I’M REGISTERED, WHAT’S NEXT? 1. Congratulations, you have registered for your first semester at WIU. Please be aware that changes can be made to your schedule through the first week of classes. You may make the change yourself on STARS. Don’t hesitate to contact your advisor if you have any questions or concerns. 2. Be sure to follow the procedures given to you to activate your WIU email (www.wiu.edu/guava/). Check your email frequently. Please DO NOT forward mail from this account to your other email systems. We have encountered numerous problems with students who have done so. Need assistance, call (309) 298-2704. 3. Visit the CPEP Advising Center website: www.wiu.edu/cpep. Please check this website frequently as information will be updated and added periodically. To see how community college courses transfer to WIU, click on “Undergraduate Advising” and then on “Transfer Articulation Guide”. 4. Get your photo ID taken in the Student Assistance Center in the University Union or University Housing and Dining Services, Seal Hall. 5. Get your books. You may purchase your books through the University Union Bookstore (https://www.wiu.com/wiustore/), Chapman’s Bookstore or Sarge’s Bookstore both located on Adams Street across from Sherman Hall. 6. If you are bringing a car to campus, you must purchase a parking permit starting August 1st from Parking Services located in Mowbray Hall or from the Student Assistance Center located in the University Union. You can also reserve them online through your STARS account. 7. Class schedules, important dates for the semester, computer lab information, general education requirements, and final exam schedules are all published on the WIU website (www.wiu.edu). 8. You must earn and maintain a 2.75 cumulative and major GPA to obtain full acceptance to the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Your first semester is a very critical time for you. 9. Complete the online Alcohol-Wise course as instructed in a letter you will be receiving prior to coming to campus. 10. You will be required to complete a Technology Competency Assessment during the first semester. This assessment covers the following: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access and Internet safety. Additional information available at http://wiu.edu/tca . 11. You must make an appointment to see your Advisor every semester, prior to pre-registration. Make your appointment early—waiting may cause you to miss your scheduled registration date. Welcome to WIU. Have a GREAT semester!
