It also consists of exploring current and past administrative and organizational issues within the FBI. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is an agency belonging to the United States Department of Justice that provides services for both federal criminal investigations and internal intelligence, also known as counterintelligence. There is some concern that the movement of investigative resources from the FBI’s traditional criminal mission to the counterterrorism and counterintelligence mission may undermine the agency’s ability to aggressively counter crime. The FBI is faced with issue of protection and whether it can protect the United States from another 9/11-type attack. Another goal of this project is to show how the FBI has handled that criticism as well as what changes were made to effectively combat the department’s mission statement. The ongoing reformation of the FBI presents possible opportunities in change in protection. The FBI’s reactive law enforcement culture, with its alleged predilection for information may ultimately prove itself incapable of adapting to a preventative counterterrorism and intelligence mission. This research highlights the importance of communication, effectively training future agents, as well as cleaning house.
