Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by committee chair Wayne Pitcher. 2. Minutes of November 10, 2009 Item #3 was corrected. The second sentence should read “He reported that Dale has explained the unit procedure for Intercollegiate Athletics courses…” MSC (Cirera-Perez/Ogman) to approve the minutes of November 10, 2009, as amended. 3. Health/PE/Athletics Plan Dale Wagoner reported that he will work with Jane Church to develop a catalog statement that covers repeatability in Physical Education 1, 2, and 3. They will bring back revisions on December 8. There was discussion on how the rest of the outlines would be revised. Kaaren Krueg asked what should be submitted for CurricUNET implementation. Wayne will contact Governet and find out what our options are. Physical Education 65, Fit for Duty: Health and Fitness for Law Enforcement, 3 units Wayne distributed copies of a revised outline. There was discussion on the relationship of Outcomes 6 and 11 to the course content. Patricia Shannon suggested that Course Content be revised to reflect the importance of these two outcomes. MSC (Bhangal/Ogman) to approve Physical Education 65 contingent upon the outline in the final packet incorporating these suggestions. 4. Language Arts Presentation Marcia Corcoran presented. Wayne distributed a list of his comments, and added that the missing SLOs information is based on a spreadsheet generated in September. If you have done SLOs on any of the courses listed, please forward them electronically to Carole Splendore. He added that Language Arts did a good job of providing rationales for texts older than 5 years. Jane noted that when transferable courses are deleted, she needs to be notified. She will fill out a trans/bacc form for this course and forward it to the division for inclusion in the final packet. MAJOR CHANGES SIGN LANGUAGE Sign Language 64, ASL Beginning Sign Language, 3 units Sign Language 65, ASL Intermediate Sign Language, 3 units Needed: • Add “3 units” to the Catalog Description (after title) Edna Danaher asked whether the repeatability on these courses is legal. Wayne read the Title 5 regulations and determined that Foreign Languages are not repeatable. The repeatability on Sign Language 64, 65, and 66 (which was not submitted for revision) needs to be removed. Needed: • Revise Sign Language 66 and add to the final packet • Remove “May be repeated 3 times” from all three Sign Language courses. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE English as a Second Language 114, Editing for the Advanced ESL Writer, 2 units Prerequisite being changed to an advisory. Needed: • Content review for advisories. English as a Second Language 129, Vocabulary Usage for ESL: Idiomatic Expressions, 1 unit Title and Prerequisite changes. Needed: • Content review for ESL 109. MSC (Ogman/Warda) to accept English 30 and ESL 114 and 129 contingent upon changes being made as noted on master packet and returned to the division. TUTORING Tutoring 1C, ChabotLink Peer Advisor Training, 1 unit New course. Marcia Corcoran reported that they are trying to build tutoring consistency across the college. Discussion included: Title 5 repeatability limits, variable content, the course number, which makes it look like part of a series. MSC (Shannon/Victoria) to refer the course back to the faculty member for possible revision, and to ask that it be brought back to the December 8 meeting. ENGLISH (Continued) English 26, The Literature of Immigration and Migration, 3 units New course. Susan Gill reported. She would like this to be included in the American Cultures area of the Chabot Graduation Requirements. Discussion included • Different groups aren’t spelled out; • Whether or not theoretical works should be included on the Typical Textbook list; Susan worked with Patricia Wu to make changes to the outline online. MSC (Cirera-Perez/Ogman) to accept English 26 as revised. 4. Good of the Order Wayne distributed a rationale page for changes to the Software Specialist Certificate of Achievement. No action was taken because a revised program page was not provided. Curriculum Committee 11-17-09, page 5 Kaaren reported that in the revised program page for the Business AS degree (approved by consent at the October 27 meeting) Computer Science 8 was accidentally removed along with Computer Application Systems 8. The discipline would like to reinstate it. Approved as a technical change. Wayne has not received email votes for changes to the Nursing degree. He will resend the memo. 5.
