Program Definition Chabot College Building: 300 Subjects/Programs to be Housed: Chabot Computer Support Project Rationale: (Why is it necessary in the first place?) Provide adequate space for repairs, servers, and network connections. Vision Statement: The Chabot and District IT areas should be flexible in design and with sufficient power to accommodate the future of network and server integrations not yet anticipated. It is the main focus point for all network and computer support operations for Instructional and Administration. With the advancement of technology Chabot IT will be providing more online services and video/audio streaming of course curriculum. Goals: Functions, activities, courses, etc.: Computer repair, programming, computer parts storage, servers, server administration and maintenance, software repository, test and evaluation stations, prototype stations, Ghosting operations and network management. Space requirements of activities, courses, etc.: Sufficient room to receive a labs worth of computers (50), unpackage and inventory. A server and 3 workstations test area to evaluate network and software modifications and/or upgrades. Parts storage and rollout staging areas. Workspace for three to five techinicians to work on repairs simutanously with power and network connections running every two feet that connect to a switch in the room that is connected by fiber to the main backbone. The work area will need a second shelve to hold monitors (this allows room to have system apart and running. A permanat area to image a minimum of five machines simutanously. Area for 6 - 7ft rack, 4 wide for storage of equipment and parts. Each technician should have a standard workspace/desk area with quad power and quad network. All twenty servers will go into the existing District server room requiring 2x30amp sockets. Physical relationship between spaces in terms of functions, and pedagogy: NA For classroom spaces, including labs, the number of student stations and the discipline(s) using them. NA For other kinds of spaces, e.g. meeting areas, estimated number of individuals who will be using them: Computer Support has 3 persons with a potential increase of Computer Support to five persons over the next five years These person will require standard workstations with quad power and quad network connections.
